One and one-half hours later .... 2,500 wooooo
We have finished ponds for the day so, today I am on a VR mission ....
To try and teach us all finances we had this guy in who was a specialist, he looked and acted like Gil from the Simpsons. We soon figured out that he wasn't, in fact qualified, he was just a form filler who had been working at a finance company so long he got to have 'specialist' printed on his card. He hadn't figured on the awesome analytical power of the debate team vice captain [ahem ... me]
He had worked out in his brain an awesome scheme ... here it goes
There are 60 million people in the UK. Each one of them gives you £1 and you are instantly a multi millionaire. Amounts that big have interest paid daily. The idea is that everyone gets their turn in the marvellous scheme. You would repay the amount back to everyone after (say) a year but over that period you would have got £ 3,100,000 in interest on your slowly declining capital. He had sure done his maths ...
then I put up my hand and the bottom dropped out of his world
I had figured that for his scheme to work, at some stage, the last people in the scheme would have had to find £ 60,000,000 to loan a £1 to everyone before it was their time. The charges on that sort of amount are calculated daily and are always a higher % than interest. So, I figured, each person working on this scheme after the first 10 millionaires will have a debt around £ 7,000,000
taaaaaaaaa daaaaaaaaa
Next week is the midwife's turn
Saturday night I was playing with my Sims and made a Sim of my step-sister, she wasn't too happy ... dunno why
Anyhow she tried to change something while I was printing a screenshot. The screen went blank, she kept on pressing ctrl+alt+del until the computer shut off. The computer came back on with a smudged screen and the printer spewed out a mess of absolute garbage.
We had to reinstal Windows. I was at work so she tried, then we had two versions of windows and lots of folders with parts of the old programs in them. She had just kept on installing Windows time and again, when it went wrong
I got the disc into the computer and restarted it, then I went for 'boot from CD' which lets you format everything and start over - she threw a hissy fit that she didn't know that and stormed off
Took me hours to load it all on and update it all online
Anyhow now I have a little partition on the hard drive with all my stuff saved, safe from her ....
Thank the Lord for Dad's endless back-ups, once again, they have saved the day
Just got back.
Sponsored swim for BBC Children in Need dontchaknow, just the same as last year - swam 1Km dressed as Bart Simpson and managed to raise £91 (so long as everyone coughs up what they promised)
It's good, I think most people in the UK do something to raise money for needy children, so far the target is in the millions
Anyhow just a quick scoot round the House and rate the whelps, then I really need an early night
hehehe I was looking over VR's terms of service for something and I found this as a reason for getting your account shut off
Impersonate any person or entity
A vampire is an entity ....
hmmmmmm
It's not like me to put in more than one entry in a day but I thought I would share a moment with y'all ...
just now was a documentary about an air ambulance here in the UK. They rescued a bunch of people from a crashed coach. That's all good but I noticed on the back of the coach, which was through a wall, was a sign
"How's my driving ? Call 0800 *** ***"
Couldn't resist ...
Today I bought 'Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix' on DVD, it was released today.
Caught a different bus to get me into town, Woolworth said that if I spent £20 in the toy dept, I could get the DVD for £14.95 - so I had to go into WH Smith and buy it for £16.95
Had a lift home from town with Matt's mum who stopped at Tesco where it said that if you buy groceries over £30 you can get Harry Potter for just £8 - and she bought £42 worth of groceries .... d'oh
Anyhow we've watched it now, different ending from the book but its good :)
In our local supermarket, they put a little basket by the newspapers so people have somewhere to throw out all the extra bits in the paper that they don't want. I have seen the guy dump the contents into the recycling bins - would've been greener if they hadn't put all the unwanted stuff inside the paper in the first place, but then I don't run the world (yet)
So yesterday the Daily Mail gave away a free DVD of 'The Snow Queen'. This didn't make me go buy their newspaper but it did make me climb into the recycle bin :)
Stupid DVD gets halfway through then says ... 'to be continued' ... like eh ? There is no second Snow Queen DVD on the offer !
Pffft that's the last time I go picking Daily Mail garbage out of the bin I can tell ya ... other newspapers will have my custom from now on
VR is back to its usual zippy self ...
I had spent my 'lag waiting' time compiling a list of movies and television for the database - which was quite a feat if I can't see the list of things already on there ... so I just listed some more, always gives me a warm feeling that
Now the evenings are dark and cold I can back to my old way of adding 10 things a day ... kewl
Work was good but a mite too cold ... if I have to get in a cold pond I usually wear a wetsuit under my overalls and waders - I haven't had to do that in a while. Today I did
I netted out nearly a solid mass of rotting leaves from the bottom of this pond, no wonder there was a problem : anyhow a lot of netting, sucking, pumping and circulating and it was looking a lot healthier. The reeds were all shot, so boss got to charge for replacements and baskets - which makes him happy. It was dark before I had finished, must remember to stow the big lamps on the trailer from now on ...
NCIS is on now, so I will return later :)
Well folks, I have been on here over four hours and managed to rate a few whelps and post a little to the House Forum.
Most of the profiles would either time out, not load or just take forever - if you put music on your profile and there wasn't a stop button, I skipped past you, sorry.
I started to get ratty where I waited like 20 minutes for a profile to load, just to see a stretched oversized 'protection' stamp on a blank profile
Then I called back on a profile to re-rate as I had promised. that one took forever and it was just a long list of VR banners
Its pointless trying to work on the database at the moment, to really get up speed on that you need three VR windows open at once with each one basically refreshing three times for each entry
oh well hopefully it will get fixed soon cause its sure doing my head in
First off I think I should mention the little known American tradition of hiding vast amounts of paper money up chimneys to welcome the next houseowner *sniggers*
OK so on with the update to all you folks out there in journal land.
Yesterday was super sukky - VR was all lagged, I was waiting 20 minutes for each page to load and the message centre was taking an age. I had been waiting days for someone to be online that I wanted to induct to House Eternal. I managed to send a message but wasn't clear, so she asked a question ... took me an hour to load up the message centre to read it. Anyhow I started at about 6:30pm and by 10.30pm I had managed to look over one profile, just about to go to bed and the site nstuck for about 3 mins - induction and welcome message, then the lag was back - phew, that was close.
UK is on mega flood alert, nothing new there then
Just watched the Simpson's Halloween Special XII, haven't seen that before - that's neat, and Harry Potter is out on DVD on Monday - that's awesome
Anyhow I have to go catch up on my rating :)
catch you later ....
about to go to bed ... spent I think five hours poking around here
Just found an 'editorial reviews' link on the left margin, haven't noticed that before .....
got just a little bit grounded yesterday ... went to a November 5th party and had a fight :(
Now I am not a violent person at all, I was put into Aikido classes to try and stop me running away.
Anyhooo yesterday there was a guy throwing sparklers at the little kids that were only trying to enjoy the bonfire. No-one, including the adults, were doing anything to stop him and he was swearing something awful.
So I told him to stop. He sort of turned round like really mad that anyone should say anything at all in front of his friends. He was a lot older and bigger than me, so I figured I could either try my Aikido and redirect his Ki to a position where he was no longer a threat and could come to no harm .. or kick him in the nuts.
He was doubled up with most people standing round him muttering things like 'serves him right' but I still got grounded :(
Anyhow I'm back now, I see like 10 people have all suggested '30 days of night' to the database which would be good but we have had all the books and the movie listed for quite a while now
I see a few people have hit my profile with stamps that are like three times too wide, problem is the people who have followed them haven't left a comment to rotate them quickly off my page - I see I have picked up a few low rates straight afterwards, I guess people can't make head or tale of the profile when its all stretched - I will have to message them to explain it wasn't my fault !!
Birra has made sire, that's awesome, he's a nice guy *nods*. Images is celebrating her second year in VR woooooooooo its all going on in here I can tell ya
Just waiting now to induct someone I have been stalking for weeks in House Eternal
S'good
we set the flare off
The village was firing off their little rockets and oooohing and ahhhhing at the sparks, the odd squeak at the little pops and bangs
So Dad and I go out with this thing. It wasn't that big, just a cylinder with a cap on each end. We read the instructions after getting the 'that isn't a toy' lecture from my step mum. We take the cap off each end and a little lever popped out the bottom - Dad folded this little lever back against the tube and squeezed.
There was a sort of WOOOOOMMPH and nothing, a little smoke by where we were but nothing much
then ... then .... a looooong way up there was a huge bang and I mean huge !!
Then this small glow started and it got brighter and brighter ... it was like everything was in red sunlight. People gave up setting off their fireworks, I guess cause they were either watching this or couldn't see their puny sparks in the light !!
It sort of slowly fell down a little wobbly on a parachute, it took ages to come down. It went out with a little pop about 20m up in the air after I guess about a minute.
I have never, ever, seen anything so awesome .... it must have gone up like hundreds of metres and it was soooo bright
I can't see how people who have to use these things at sea can't be seen, it must light up one huge area of sea
Anyhow its really late ... bed summons
Night night reader wherever you are :)
I have to make a list of people who have an important role in religious ceremonies ...
I'm going to add 'goat holder'
I was going to post a message that I got from a whelp complaining that she had suggested something for the database a whole hour ago and it hadn't appeared yet ... I've suggested she complain to Cancer *chuckles* that will be fun to watch ... anyhow I've calmed down now.
Anyhow, today I spent my lunch break feeding this little bird with lumps of chicken out of my sandwich - yes, I created a cannibal birdie hehe - wanted to get it to sit on the toe of my boot, but it wouldn't :( at least it would be a little fatter when it left
Man today had called us in because a [quote] virus [/unquote] had killed his wife's fish overnight. I get ready to disinfect the pond, scoop out the dead fish ... go to take the brushes out of the filter and it smelled like a swimming pool !!! Sure enough the man had tried to clean the algae off the inside of his pond with bleach *sigh*
Fireworks were good yesterday. I don't buy them, I sit on the wall and watch everyone elses ... sneaky huh. I have got a rocket in the shed but that goes up and comes back down on a little parachute.
Dad has got a ship's flare from his friend, it went out of date in September, so we're going out at 10pm to set that off :)
I was reading Sabastion's journal yesterday, its an awesome read 'especially 'hunting humans' (which is nothing to do with vampires LOL) - I now realise what mace is - you would not believe what I thought was happening hehehe
Anyhow I am dashing out to watch the fireworks .... be back tomorrow :)
It seems I left a book behind when I went on summer holidays.
I am so far ahead with coursework it is stupid but I am now running late with one essay, well not late - I have to have it ready by Wednesday.
I could google my way through car fuel prices, or eMail petrol companies - but I figure I have a worldwide resource right here at my fingertips - let's see what happens.
So, for the first time in months, I post to the Sandbox ...
I got my T Shirt from getting 2nd place in The Coven of Oppressed Debauchery's poetry competition --- woooooooooooooooo
